Jost Bauch

Jost Bauch (born May 1, 1949 in Osnabrück ; † December 2, 2018 ) was a German sociologist , university professor , freelance lecturer and publicist .

Life

Career

Jost Bauch grew up as the son of a graduate engineer in Münster , where he attended the Martin Luther School and from 1960 the Johann Conrad Schlaun Grammar School. After graduating from high school in 1971, he studied sociology at Bielefeld University . Professors Helmut Schelsky and Niklas Luhmann had a formative influence on him. In 1976 he completed his studies with a degree in sociology .

In 1980, Jost belly in Bielefeld with a dissertation subject and purpose: studies on the relationship between the individual and civil society doctorate (appraiser Niklas Luhmann). In 1994 he received his habilitation at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Konstanz with a paper on health as a social code (expert Horst Baier ). With this, he acquired the license to teach the field of sociology in medicine and health care .

From 1978 to 1979, Bauch worked as a research assistant at the Dortmund University of Education. From 1979 to 1997 he was with the German Dental Association in Cologne Scientific Head of the Health Unit and Social Policy with the work focusing on oral epidemiological research and dental prevention . From 1981 to 1989 he held a teaching position for medical sociology and health education at the University of Cologne in the educational sciences department.

From 1997 to 1999, Bauch was a freelance lecturer, among others for the mibeg Institute for Medicine in Cologne, the German Working Group for Youth Dental Care in Bonn and the Social and Occupational Medicine Academy Baden-Württemberg. From 2000 to 2003 he was managing director of the "Hessian Working Group for Health Education" in Marburg and participated in the implementation of new prevention concepts.

In 2000, Bauch took over the position of professor for sociology at the University of Neubrandenburg . From 2001 he was an adjunct professor at the University of Konstanz. In 2002 he worked as a freelance lecturer for health management at the Kolping Academy. In 2004 he was lay judge and juror at the Bonn Regional Court . In 2007 he was teaching at the University of Social Work in Lucerne . In 2008 he was a research assistant at Gerl GmbH in Cologne.

Bauch has also been productive as a writer , publicist, and public speaker. He published twelve books and more than a hundred articles in magazines, including for the now inactive series of Konstanzer Schriften zur Sozialwissenschaft as well as for prevention. The trade journal for health promotion . He wrote fifty forum posts in the weekly magazine Junge Freiheit . His lectures dealt with the sociological analysis of current events in society and politics. He gave several lectures on the subject of "In which society will our grandchildren live?", For example in November 2004 at the Kreissenioren-Union in his place of residence in Euskirchen and in December 2007 at the Berlin fraternity Gothia .

Because of the content of his public statements on demographic change and immigration policy, including in Junge Freiheit and on the Internet TV station secret.tv , he was rejected as an academic teacher in February 2010 according to a resolution of a general assembly of the Konstanz student body. The rector Ulrich Rüdiger distanced himself from Bauch with the words: “A university, for which international exchange, tolerance and respect for foreign cultures is a matter of course, cannot approve of Bauch's activities.” The university management saw no possibility of withdrawing his teaching authorization. In an interview with Junge Freiheit , Bauch described the events from his perspective. His professorship in Konstanz ended in 2014.

Bauch was a member of the presidium of the right-wing conservative study center Weikersheim for seven years , as vice president and most recently together with Karl Albrecht Schachtschneider as president. He was a member of the board of trustees of the AfD- affiliated Desiderius Erasmus Foundation, founded in 2017, and employee of the AfD parliamentary group leader in the Bundestag Alice Weidel .

Private

Jost Bauch was married twice. He had a daughter and two grandchildren. On the first Sunday of Advent in 2018, he died unexpectedly at the age of 69. He was buried in the cemetery in the Frauenberg district of Euskirchen .
