The German Dental Association, Association of German Dental Associations e. V. (BZÄK) is the professional representation of all dentists in Germany. Members of the German Dental Association are the dental associations of the federal states. The board of directors of the German Dental Association consists of the President, two Vice-Presidents and the Presidents of the (state) Dental Associations. The highest decision-making body is the Federal Assembly. The (state) dental associations send delegates to the Federal Assembly.

The Federal Dental Association is - in contrast to the State Dental Associations - not a chamber or other corporation under public law , but a registered association .

Representation of interests

According to its own statements, the German Dental Association represents the health and professional interests of the dental profession. It is committed to the common good. Your primary goal is the commitment to a free, future-oriented healthcare system. It promotes advanced, science-based dentistry that puts the patient first.

tasks

In detail, the areas of responsibility of the German Dental Association include:

  • Representation of the dental profession in relation to politics, the media and the general public at the federal level
  • Creation of framework conditions for the provision and recognition of dental services
  • Coordination and further development of dental training, further education and training in cooperation with dental-scientific organizations
  • Strengthening prevention and health promotion
  • Improving dental (medical) care for the population
  • Representation of the interests of the dental profession at European and international level

Together with the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Dentists , the BZÄK publishes the dental communications .

Bureau

The President of the German Dental Association is Peter Engel (as of 2017). Vice-presidents are the President of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Dental Association , Dietmar Oesterreich, and Christoph Benz, member of the board of the Bavarian State Dental Association . The term of office is 4 years (2016–2020).

As of December 31, 2017

As of September 30, 2019, the number of dentists has risen to 97,372 (+2183), of which 72,592 people are dentists (+470). 50,022 are established in their own practice and 22,570 are employees. There are 24,780 people (+1713) without dental work (including pensioners).

The German Dental Association awards deserving personalities the silver and gold badge of honor of the German dental profession .

history

On March 27, 1953 in Rothenburg / o. In part, the "Federal Association of German Dentists" (BDZ) was founded. From 1990 the association was called "Federal Dental Association". The German Dental Association has officially been using the name since 1993.

Erich Pillwein was a member of the NSDAP in the Third Reich , but this was kept a secret before, during and after his term of office. The Nazi past of Jürgen Weitkamp's father, Ernst Weitkamp , who was employed as a camp dentist in Mauthausen concentration camp during the Nazi era, was also kept secret .
