Horst Sebastian

Horst Sebastian (born January 14, 1928 in Mannheim ; † December 25, 1986 ) was a German dentist and professional politician .

Life

After attending primary school, he completed high school for boys at Kaiser-Karl-Ring in Mannheim and at the secondary school in Buchen . Military service from January 1944 to April 1945 as an air force helper . From 1948 to 1953 various studies in medicine and psychology (without a degree) at the University of Heidelberg. Study of dentistry at the University of Mainz 1954 to 1956, doctorate to Dr. med. dent. on December 20, 1956. 1956 to 1959 various activities as an assistant in dental practices. November 1959 to January 1963 assistant at the University Clinic and Polyclinic for Dental, Oral and Jaw Diseases in Mainz. From 1963 working as a resident dentist in his own practice in Mainz.

Services

KZV Rhineland-Palatinate

During his tenure in the Rhineland-Palatinate Association of Statutory Health Insurance Dentists (KZV RPL), Horst Sebastian reformed the state chamber. The new building of the regional center in Mainz, which was built during his tenure, was posthumously renamed "Horst-Sebastian-Haus". Furthermore, the KZV RLP awards the Horst Sebastian Medal for special merits.

Federal Dental Association

As President of the Federal Association of German Dentists (BDZ), today the Federal Dental Association, Horst Sebastian was successfully committed to the interests of the German dental profession. But he just as emphatically demanded from the members of the BDZ a socially networked political dentist who is actively involved in society beyond his professional activity. This constant admonition has a formative effect on the self-image of the dental profession even after his term of office. The President of the LZK RPL, Dr. Michael Rumpf in 2009: "Starting from Rhineland-Palatinate, since Horst Sebastian, we have actually politicized the profession." On the occasion of the centenary of the Zahnärztliche Mitteilungen (zm), the association body of the dental professional organizations wrote in 2010: “With the election of Dr. Horst Sebastian, the association policy of the BDZ got a new dimension. On the one hand, the new president stepped up international activities, on the other hand he focused on social and cultural aspects of the independent profession of dentist. Under Sebastian's presidency, the German Dental Library (DZB) and the Dental Museum in Cologne flourished, the social and cultural contributions of the stand were highlighted and sociological issues were dealt with [...] "

Aid organization of German dentists

He was particularly committed to the charity foundation of German dentists founded by CH Bartels . During his tenure as President of the German Dental Association, he ensured, among other things, that the necessary funds were secured for the construction of an orphan children's home in Peru and for the accommodation and education of 80 girls. This meanwhile largest project of the aid organization is located in the valley of the sacred Inca river Urubamba, approx. 30 min. Drive from Cusco. The resulting settlement bears the name "Dr.-Horst-Sebastian-Village".
