Barsom

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term Barsom comes from the ancient Persian cult of Zoroastrianism . It denotes a bundle of consecrated branches that the priest holds in his left hand while reading the ancient Persian Zend Awesta . This bundle is in turn wound with a particularly sacred band of palm leaves , which is called Evanguin. The number of volumes is determined according to the part of the book read. However, the botanical address of the branches is still unknown.
