Horst Baier (sociologist)

Horst Baier (born March 26, 1933 in Brno , Moravia ; † December 2, 2017 in Konstanz ) was a German physician and sociologist , most recently professor of sociology at the University of Konstanz .

Life

Horst Baier initially studied medicine in Erlangen, Berlin and Munich. In 1953 he became a member of the Germania Erlangen fraternity , from which he later left with some federal brothers to found the Sieglitzhofer Germania . In 1959 he was at the University of Erlangen for Dr. med. PhD . He then worked for Helmut Schelsky at the social research center at the University of Münster in Dortmund. In 1969 he completed his habilitation in sociology at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster with a study on Max Weber .

Horst Baier was initially a professor of sociology and social education at the University of Education in Münster . In 1970, he received a call to the chair of Theodor W. Adorno as a professor of sociology and philosophy at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , 1975 he moved to the chair of sociology at the University of Konstanz. His scientific collaborators included Maurizio Bach , Michael Bäuerle, Michael Ebertz , Weyma Lübbe , Bernhard Mann , Claus Offermann and Paul Ridder . In 1998 he retired .

Act

Horst Baier was in the tradition of Hans Freyer and Helmut Schelsky. His main research interests were medical-sociological and socio-political topics, in particular administrative and hospital economics and social and health administration such as knowledge-sociological and socio- philosophical topics.

Horst Baier was for many years co-editor of the scientific journal Mensch-Medizin-Gesellschaft , published by Enke-Verlag Stuttgart , and he was - together with Erhard Roy Wiehn - editor of the Konstanzer Schriften zur Sozialwissenschaft as well as the sociological contemporary questions.
