Erhard Roy Wiehn

Erhard Roy Wiehn (born August 1, 1937 in Saarbrücken ) is a sociologist and professor emeritus in the Department of History and Sociology at the University of Konstanz .

Life

Erhard Roy Wiehn worked in the metal industry from 1951 to 1957, attended a humanistic evening high school in 1957/61 and studied sociology, philosophy and psychology in Munich, Tübingen and the USA from 1961 to 1965. 1965-1969 he was assistant to Ralf Dahrendorf . In 1965 he obtained his MA, in 1967 he became a Dr. rer. soc. doctorate, in 1971 he received the Venia legendi for sociology. 1971–1972 he was a Fellow of the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIAS, Institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences ) in Wassenaar near The Hague. 1972–1974 he was a university lecturer in Konstanz, 1974 visiting professor at the University of Bielefeld , 1974–2002 professor in the Department of History and Sociology at the University of Konstanz. He was several times a member of the Small and Large Senate and Deputy Chairman of the Large Senate as well as a member of other university committees and spokesman for the Sociology Department at the University of Konstanz. 1983–1984 and 1990–1991 he was Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, 1998–1999 as Vice Dean. 1992–1997 he was project manager of the university research group. 2006 Max Kade Visiting Professor at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, USA. From 1987 to 2002 he was a board member of the “Environment and Housing Foundation” at the University of Konstanz.

Act

He initiated three partnerships between the University of Konstanz and international universities: 1986: Partnership between the Universities of Konstanz and Tel Aviv, he was the Rector's representative for cooperation from 1987 to 1997 and was also a member of the board of the Lion Foundation (Zurich) and the sponsorship group for the cooperation between the Universities of Konstanz and Tel Aviv . 1989: Cooperation with the Kiev National University of Economics KNEU (Rector's representative 1990–1995 and 2005–2007). 1991: Partnership with the National Taras Shevchenko University of Kiev (Rector's representative 1992–2007).

He was co-initiator of the partnerships between the University of Konstanz and the University of Alexandru Ioan Cuza Iași (Romania) in 1992, the Charles University in Prague in 1992 and the Russian Plekhanov University of Economics in Moscow in 2003. Wiehn was a member of the German-Ukrainian expert commission of the German from 1997-1998 - Ukrainian University Rectors' Conference. From 2002–2005 he was a member of the selection committee of the German Academic Exchange Service ( DAAD ) for Ukraine, Moldova, Romania and Turkey (Section 322). Since 1992 he has been a member of the International Academic Advisory Board of the Sociological Papers of the Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gan / Israel.

In the political field he was a member of the FDP / DVP Baden-Württemberg from 1968 to 1983, in the 1970s and partly until the early 80s local chairman in Konstanz, deputy district chairman, member of the state executive and federal party delegate of the FDP.

He is a co-founder and member of the German-Israeli Society , Arbeitsgemeinschaft Bodenseeregion, and was its chairman from 1974–1992. He has been a member of the Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation Konstanz since the 1970s . 1991–1996 he was a columnist for the Jüdischen Rundschau (Basel) . 1999–2001 he was the initiator, founding member and deputy chairman of the German-Romanian Society on Lake Constance (Konstanz). Since 1999 he has been a member of the German-Ukrainian Forum e. V. (Berlin).

Wiehn was involved in various civic activities and early 1980s juror at District Court of Constance .

Since 2002 he has been a board member of the Jewish Community of Kreuzlingen (Thurgau / Switzerland) and since 2008 Co-President of the Jewish Community of Kreuzlingen until its dissolution in 2016.
