Maurizio Bach

Maurizio Bach (born April 6, 1953 in Trento , Italy ) is a German sociologist .

Maurizio Bach studied political science and sociology at the University of Hanover , among others with Oskar Negt and Peter Brückner . He received his doctorate with the work The charismatic leader dictatorships. Third Reich and Italian fascism compared their structures of rule at the European University Institute in Florence , where he also worked as a research attaché (1987–1989). He then moved to the Institute for Sociology at the University of Heidelberg as a research assistant to M. Rainer Lepsius . In 1996 he completed his habilitation at the University of Konstanz with the text Beyond the Rational Action. Vilfredo Paretos foundations of a sociological theory of action . From 2000 until his retirement in April 2019, Bach taught sociology at the University of Passau . In April 2020, Bach was appointed senior professor of sociology at the European University of Flensburg.

He was visiting professor in the USA ( Western Michigan University ), Zurich , Trento , Brazil ( Juiz de Fora ; Sao Paulo, USP; Federal University of Rio de Janeiro) and Rome ( La Sapienza ). He is co-editor of the Zeitschrift für Politik and from 2008 to 2014 he was the section spokesman of the German Society for Sociology, Section European Sociology (formerly Section East-Central European Sociology ).

His focus areas are: political sociology , sociology of Europe, sociology of European integration, comparative historical-sociological research on fascism, classics of sociology (especially Vilfredo Pareto and Max Weber ) and general social theory.

Bach has been co-editor of the Zeitschrift für Politik since 2008 .
