research

At the beginning of Vobruba's sociological research there were problems of state theory . This resulted in numerous studies on problems of social policy, the welfare state and the labor market , first in a national, then in a European context, and finally in connection with the discussion of transnationalization and globalization . The contributions to the structural change in the labor market, the end of full employment and the problems and prospects of a guaranteed basic income are among his most publicly perceived writings.

Another focus of Vobruba's work is the sociology of political and social spaces, efforts to develop a sociology of Europe, a border sociology and thus the sociologization of questions of politics, especially international politics. Georg Vobruba is an expert on problems of European integration, the enlargement of the European Union and the European neighborhood policy .

The third, socio-theoretical focus of his research is devoted to the link between action theory and political sociology . Based on legitimation problems and crisis research , the perspective expanded to include the relationship between social-institutional integration and the obstinacy of individual action, as well as the institutional conditions of individual gains in autonomy. Georg Vobruba sees in this approach the continuation of critical theory as a political sociology of social criticism.
