Michael Opielka (* 1956 ) is a German social scientist and university professor specializing in sociology , social ecology and social policy . Opielka teaches as a professor of social policy at the Ernst Abbe University of Jena and as a private lecturer in sociology at the University of Hamburg . He heads the Institute for Social Ecology in Siegburg.

Life

In 1983 Opielka graduated from the University of Tübingen with a degree in educational science .

In the 1980s Opielka was a socio-political pioneer of the Greens , among other things from 1983 to 1987 in the function of a scientific adviser to the parliamentary group.

In 1996 he received his doctorate in sociology from the Humboldt University in Berlin and in 2007 also completed his habilitation in sociology at the University of Hamburg .

From 1997 to 2000 he was rector of the Alanus University for Art and Society , from 1995 to 1996 department head at the State Institute for Family Research at the University of Bamberg . As a visiting scholar he conducted research in 1990/91 at the Department of Sociology and in 2004/05 at the School of Social Welfare at the University of California at Berkeley .

Since 2000 he has been a professor of social policy at the Ernst Abbe University of Jena . He was a lecturer in sociology at the University of Bonn .

From August 2012 to June 2016 he was Scientific Director and Managing Director of the Institute for Future Studies and Technology Assessment (IZT) in Berlin.

His main research interests are social policy, the sociology of religion and knowledge, family research, sociological theory and cultural theory. He contributes to the social reform discussion with numerous books and articles. He advocates a guaranteed basic income . He is a member of the scientific advisory board of the Basic Income Network , Basic Income Earth Network - Germany ( BIEN ).

Opielka lives in Siegburg .
