The Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences Jena (short: EAH Jena ) was founded on October 1, 1991 as the Jena University of Applied Sciences and was the first university of applied sciences in the new federal states. Since the summer semester 2012 it has been named after the scientist, entrepreneur and social reformer Ernst Abbe .

history

While the course began in the 1991 winter semester with 272 students, around 4500 students are currently enrolled at EAH Jena. After extensive renovation and redesign, all departments, the university administration and the central library with an integrated patent and research center have been located on campus in the Carl-Zeiss-Promenade since the end of 2001.

In the summer semester 2012, was Fachhochschule Jena in Ernst-Abbe-Fachhochschule - University of Applied Sciences renamed. Due to a change in the Thuringian University Act, another name change followed in October 2014 to Ernst-Abbe-Hochschule Jena .

Research and Development

The research and development area of ​​EAH Jena includes three main research areas:

As part of the compulsory practical phases as well as through the preparation of theses with external partners, the broad base of students takes on research and development tasks. A large number of research projects are carried out annually under the direction of professors, mostly in cooperation with companies and institutions.

Graduate support

In the 2016 examination year, 857 students successfully completed their studies. In 2016, 52 doctoral students worked on their cooperative doctoral projects. There are contractual agreements with the Technical University of Ilmenau and the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena , which, among other things, also include cooperation on cooperative doctorates and are intended to facilitate the access of university graduates with a master's degree to cooperative doctorates.

The EAH Jena campus is located in the immediate vicinity of Carl Zeiss AG . Located southwest of Jena city center, the university can be reached quickly. After the renovation of the last building in October 2008, the 26,000 m² campus has a total of 1,500 rooms - including seven lecture halls and 124 laboratories. The Studierendenwerk Thuringia operates a canteen, a cafeteria and café-bar as well as a student residence on the premises of the EAH Jena. The university's library contains around 300,000 books, videos and CDs. Since June 1999 the Ernst Abbe University of Jena has had its own climatological measuring station. Since then, the local climate has been registered and can be accessed on the Internet.

Networks

EAH Jena is a member of numerous networks. Together with other East German universities, she was involved in the Study in the Far East campaign and, as a Thuringian university, she is involved in the Campus Thuringia network .
