The Duale Hochschule Gera-Eisenach (DHGE) is a state university in the Free State of Thuringia , whose offer is limited to dual studies . It offers practice-integrated training between the company and the university. The DHGE was founded in 2016 when it was incorporated into the Thuringian University Act . The university is based in Gera , with a second study location in Eisenach .

history

The dual university goes back to the establishment of the Thuringian University of Cooperative Education in 1998. The Thuringian legislature had in 2006 reformed the University of Cooperative Education and the Thuringian Studienakademie as an umbrella organization in the form of a public corporation established the Cooperative Education Eisenach and cooperative education Gera as public institutions were subordinated. The professional academies were entitled to award university degrees with equal qualifications, which, however, were not completed by a university examination , but by a state examination and did not constitute academic degrees . However, the state government identified deficits in the attractiveness of the vocational academies for students and teachers as well as in the acceptance of degrees as equivalent to university degrees, which is why the institution should be elevated to a university.

In 2014, the state government included upgrading the vocational academy to a dual university in the Free State's 2020 university strategy . On July 12, 2016, the amendment to the Higher Education Act was passed in the Thuringian state parliament . In the winter semester 2016/2017, the university commenced operations as such.
