The Eisenach Vocational Academy

The school at the Eisenach Wartenberg was opened in 1909 and 1901 in honor of the late Grand Duke Carl Alexander of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach Carl Alexander School named.

During the Second World War, the tower on the roof of the building was damaged and later removed. During the GDR, the school was used as a polytechnic high school.

From the school year 1991/92 onwards, a regular school and the state primary school Am Wartenberg were housed in the building. After the regular school closed in 1998, the newly founded vocational academy moved into the parts of the building previously used by the regular school, which was extensively renovated from 2000 to 2001. In 2001 the first 90 graduates of the BA received their diplomas. The state primary school was closed at the end of the 2001 school year; since then the professional academy has been using the entire building.

Education system of the professional academy

Studying at the Eisenach University of Cooperative Education combined theory and practice. During the three-year study period, the graduates were trained not only by studying at the vocational academy but also through professional tasks from leading practical partners. Over the entire duration of the course, the student received a minimum training allowance set by the state from the practice partner.

The course began on the first of October. The study duration was three years or six semesters. One semester is divided into twelve weeks of theory and twelve weeks of practical experience. At the end of each theory phase, the knowledge learned was tested in final exams or seminar papers. The practical phase took place in the training company.

In the field of technology there were the fields of study production technology, technical management, mechatronics and automation, construction, plastics technology, production metrology & quality management as well as information & communication technologies.

In the field of economics, there were courses in medium-sized industry, wholesale & retail, international business administration, tourism, service management and industrial engineering and technical sales.
