history

There are three partners behind StudiumPlus: the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) as the largest university for applied sciences in Hessen, the CompetenceCenter Duale Hochschulstudien StudiumPlus e. V. (CCD), in which more than 900 companies and institutions are united, as well as the Chamber Association of Central Hesse under the leadership of the IHK Lahn-Dill . This cooperation makes StudiumPlus the largest provider of dual study programs in Hessen. The IHK-Verbund Mittelhessen under the leadership of the IHK Wetzlar developed a study program together with the university around the year 2000 with the aim of combining academic teaching with professional practice. The vocational academies in other federal states served as models . In order to ensure that the companies in Central Hesse receive specialists and executives with vocational higher education, the ZDH was founded in 2000 by the THM and the association CompetenceCenter Duale Hochschulstudien - StudiumPlus e. V. (CCD) was founded by the company. A board of trustees acts as a link between the two institutions. The first course in industrial engineering started operations in the 2001/02 winter semester with 31 students and 28 company members after approval by the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art (HMWK) and accreditation by the Central Evaluation and Accreditation Agency . The courses in economics (2002), engineering / microsystems technology and business administration (2003) followed. The first graduates passed in 2004, the number of students had risen to 228, those of the participating companies to 100. The number of company members rose from 150 (2005) to 275 (2009), 350 (2010), 650 (2015) up to over 900 (2019). Wetzlar has been an official university location since October 27, 2010. Since October 2010, there have been branches of StudiumPlus with their own specific courses in Bad Hersfeld, Bad Wildungen and Frankenberg, since the winter semester 2012/2013 in Biedenkopf, since the winter semester 2015/16 in Bad Vilbel and since the winter semester 2016/17 in Limburg an der Lahn .

campus

Historical photo from 1950 of today's campus area

A building ensemble in the former Spilburg barracks in the east of the city of Wetzlar serves as the campus and headquarters of StudiumPlus . The aggregate "Parade ground with surrounding buildings" from 1914 (today Charlotte-Bamberg-Strasse, Steinbühlstrasse, Spilburgstrasse) is a registered cultural monument . The university facility uses two of the three-story, plastered buildings on high rubble stone plinths with dormer-studded hip roofs. Together with the single-storey parade hall, the buildings are grouped around a large historical parade yard, which today creates a campus atmosphere.
