Weserbergland University of Applied Sciences on the Weser

The Weserbergland University of Applied Sciences (HSW for short) is a private university of applied sciences in Hameln . It is named after the Weser Uplands that surround Hameln.

history

The HSW was founded in 1989 by the regional economy as the vocational academy Weserbergland. In 1990 she started her studies with the dual course of business informatics. The second course in business administration started a year later. From the initial 25 students, the then vocational academy increased the number of students to over 300 (as of August 2010).

Since August 1, 2004, the existing courses have been replaced by Bachelor courses ( Bachelor of Science in Business Informatics / Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration ). As a result, the graduates receive a bachelor's degree that provides the same authorizations (transition to master’s programs) as the bachelor’s degree from a university (cf. Nds. BAkadG §6a, paragraph 5).

On August 1, 2010, the state recognized as Hochschule Weserbergland , which started operations with 300 students in the 2010/2011 winter semester.

In 2011, the range of courses was expanded to include the dual course in industrial engineering (Bachelor of Engineering) and a Master in General Management (MBA). Since September 2014 the Weserbergland University of Applied Sciences has been offering the part-time business administration course (Bachelor of Arts). Since 2019 there has also been a part-time course in "IT Business Management" (Bachelor of Science) that is unique in Germany.

In the dual courses of study, HSW currently offers the following subjects, which are based on the branches of the partner companies:

  • Business administration specializing in banking and financial services, energy management, industry as well as taxes and auditing
  • Business informatics specializing in application development, IT consulting, system integration and cyber security
  • Industrial engineering specializing in energy technology, glass technology and production technology

HSW works with zeb.rolfes.schierenbeck.associates gmbh , Finanz Informatik GmbH & Co. KG , E.ON Kernkraft , Deutsche Postbank AG , Fiducia & GAD IT AG , Commerzbank AG , BHW Bausparkasse , among others AG and Paulmann Licht GmbH as partner companies. The dual course begins on August 1st and lasts 6 semesters.

The Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, which is part of the training and part-time work, and the part-time Master’s degree in General Management (MBA) both start in September. The bachelor's degree lasts 8 semesters, the master's degree lasts 5 semesters.

The teaching and learning concept at HSW is based on the student. The cross-learning concept is based on a blended learning approach that combines classic forms of learning with e-learning . Constant supervision is possible via internet access regardless of the place of study.

The HSW building is located in the center of Hameln directly on the Weser, not far from the Pied Piper Hall.
