The Hanover University of Applied Sciences ( HsH ) is a state university of applied sciences in Lower Saxony . In Hanover, it is essentially divided into four locations (main campus on Ricklinger Stadtweg in Hanover-Linden ⊙ , EXPO-Plaza in Hanover-Mittelfeld ⊙ , Blumhardtstraße in Hanover-Kleefeld ⊙ and Heisterbergallee in Hanover-Ahlem ⊙ ).

The HsH has around 10,040 students enrolled in the 2015/2016 winter semester and around 620 professors and employees in total. Josef von Helden has been president since May 12, 2014.

Faculties

The Hanover University of Applied Sciences is divided into five faculties.

  • Faculty I - Electrical and Information Technology
  • Faculty II - mechanical engineering and bioprocess engineering
  • Faculty III - Media, Information and Design
Faculty III is divided into the Design and Media (DM) and Information and Communication (IK) departments.

The Hanover University of Applied Sciences was created on August 1, 1971 through the merger of various predecessor institutions. Its fine arts and design department went back to the Freye craft school for apprentices from 1791, later the craft art school. The architecture and civil engineering department emerged from the “Königlich Hannoversche Baugewerkschule zu Nienburg / Weser”, founded in 1853, and the electrical engineering and mechanical engineering departments emerged from a school founded in 1892.

On September 1, 2007, the Hanover University of Applied Sciences incorporated the previous Evangelical University of Applied Sciences in Hanover as the new Faculty V - Diakonie, Health and Social Affairs . This, in turn, had developed from the deacon training of the Stephansstift and the Christian-Social Women's Seminar founded in 1905.

The fine arts and architecture and civil engineering departments were closed for the summer semester 2008 and winter semester 2008/2009 as part of the university optimization concept (HOK) of the state government of Lower Saxony.

On June 8, 2010, due to a change in the law, the University of Applied Sciences was renamed Hanover University .

After being accredited by the ACQUIN company at the end of 2010, the university with its photojournalism and documentary photography course is "the only German university that is allowed to use the internationally accepted designation" Photojournalism and Documentary Photography "". With this core profile, it is one of the most important international photographic training institutions.

Faculty V of the Hanover University of Applied Sciences has been cooperating with the Winnicott Institute Hanover since 2004 and offers the part-time master’s course "Therapeutic work with children and adolescents". There it is possible to obtain a professional qualification as a child and adolescent psychotherapist in addition to the Master of Arts .

Through the cooperation with over 80 universities as part of the Erasmus program, students and university staff have a wide range of options for studying, doing internships, preparing theses and postgraduate studies in other European countries. Outside Europe, the university offers structured exchange programs with American and Australian universities due to intensive contacts in the Chinese provinces of Anhui and Zhejiang , Malaysia and South Korea as well as in the Hanoverian partner city Hiroshima . Due to the close interlinking of studies and practice, the University of Hanover also has contacts to companies in Germany and abroad.
