The college 21 is a private college in Buxtehude in Lower Saxony .
history
The educational institution was founded in 2004 as a state-recognized private university of applied sciences and began its studies in the 2005/2006 winter semester. It is based on the Buxtehude site of the former Northeast Lower Saxony University of Applied Sciences , which was dissolved as part of the “university optimization concept” of the Lower Saxony state government. The protest in the region resulted in an initiative for a private sponsorship based on the model of the private public partnership .
Architects and civil engineers have been trained in Buxtehude since 1875 . Today's hochschule 21 continues this tradition, but has relied on dual bachelor's degree programs from the very beginning and has expanded the range of courses to include other professions in technology and health. In 2008, the first graduates completed their studies with a bachelor's degree.
The name of the university is derived on the one hand from its ties to the region; the Elbe-Weser area belongs to the post code region 21. On the other hand, he refers to the reorganization of the European higher education system through the Bologna process , which aims for a forward-looking, uniform European higher education area for 2020.

The university pursues a scientific approach with a high degree of practical relevance in its teaching: In the dual study programs, theoretical and practical phases alternate on a quarterly basis. The course therefore strongly aims at a professional qualification. Some of the students are employees posted by companies. The other part applies freely and brings the employer with them to the university. Admission to the course is also possible without a permanent practice partner - the university places applicants within a network of around 1000 companies. In the field of construction, these are predominantly engineering and architecture offices as well as construction and real estate companies. In the technology department , practical positions are offered by technology companies and industrial companies. The courses in the health department are designed to be integrated into training; Cooperation partners here are the Elbe Kliniken Stade-Buxtehude , the Asklepios Kliniken Hamburg and the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf . As a rule, the bachelor students are taken over by the practice partners after their studies.
In addition to the bachelor's degree programs, the university offers advanced and advanced training seminars in the fields of construction and health. During the course of studies, there is the possibility of taking exams for the apprenticeship trainer (AEVO), draftsman and real estate agent in cooperation with the IHK in Stade .
The university's equipment, which also benefits application-oriented research, includes a laboratory for building materials and geotechnics, a laboratory for electrical engineering, a laboratory for production and manufacturing technology, a laboratory for mechatronics and robotics, and a model-making workshop.

Accreditations and assessments
All Bachelor degrees are recognized by the state. The quality of teaching is assured by state accreditation procedures. In November 2012, in a statement on the successful institutional reaccreditation eight years after it was founded , the Science Council “achieved a good overall rating of the University of 21 [...] The dual courses of study at the University of 21 meet the stated requirement that specialists and junior executives for the To train the region fairly and meet the needs of small and medium-sized companies. Financing of the course
The course is financed mainly through tuition fees and third-party funds. The one-time enrollment fee at the beginning of the course is € 300. The monthly tuition fees for dual study courses in the field of construction are € 480, and for mechatronics and building technology it is € 630. In addition, there is the mandatory half-yearly contribution to the Studentenwerk OstNiedersachsen . In the practice-integrated courses, the tuition fees can usually be refinanced by the students via the remuneration from the practice partners. The training-integrated physiotherapy course costs € 400 per month. BaföG, scholarships and state-sponsored student loans are possible in all courses. Nursing DUAL and Midwife DUAL are also training-integrated courses and cost € 270 and € 245 per month.
The university is considered a showcase model, as a public university was privatized for the first time.
