Business figures

With a balance sheet total of 43.7 million euros, the IHK Lüneburg-Wolfsburg is one of the medium-sized IHKs. According to the 2013 balance sheet, the most important assets of the IHK Lüneburg-Wolfsburg are property, plant and equipment amounting to 4.41 million euros, securities amounting to 23.0 million euros (plus 8.5 million euros, which are in current assets due to the reference date as of December 31, 2013 must be shown) and other loans of 4.7 million euros. The most important liabilities are equity of 16.6 million euros and provisions for pensions and similar obligations of 21.5 million euros.

The 2013 financial year ended with a positive annual result of 2.4 million euros. The net profit was 50,228 euros. The IHK attributes this to savings and the good earnings situation for contributions. For the first time in its history, the IHK Lüneburg-Wolfsburg reimbursed its members twelve percent of the contributions with the 2012 annual accounts. The reimbursement was made with the offsetting of the 2013 contribution. For 2013, the IHK again reduced the contributions by ten percent. It was offset against the 2014 annual fee.

Pension burdens

The IHK Lüneburg-Wolfsburg has suffered from high pension burdens for years. Newly hired employees up to March 2000 were promised to increase their statutory pension to 75% of their last gross salary. The managing director at the time was dismissed after he had concluded a service agreement for the retroactive reduction of these commitments. Insufficient provisions for pension payments and exchange rate losses in the existing reserves caused losses in the millions in 2008.

The full counter-financing of the pension commitments with financial resources was only possible with the 2012 annual financial statements. On January 1, 2014, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the IHK “Pensionstreuhand der IHK Lüneburg-Wolfsburg GmbH” commenced operations. It manages the IHK's pension payments and the financial resources that match them on a fiduciary basis. With this construction, the IHK can make use of the offsetting requirement of Section 246 (2) HGB from 2014 and almost halve its balance sheet total. At the DIHK, you can look up the number of beneficiaries, the amount of the provisions and the location of the pension obligations.

Current projects

The IHK future initiative "hierjetztmorgen" deals with the challenges of demographic change and securing skilled workers. The project work began at the end of February 2014. Together, entrepreneurs, experts from local politics, associations, employment agencies, universities and other initiatives want to set up specific projects to secure skilled workers.
