Franziska Stünkel (* 1973 in Göttingen ) is a German film director , screenwriter and photo artist .

Life

Franziska Stünkel completed her training as a screenwriter and film director at the University of Fine Arts in Kassel and with Uwe Schrader at the Hanover University of Applied Sciences in the field of fine arts . Following her diploma, she was appointed a master class student. During her studies she received several scholarships, including a. the two-year vgf grant from the Bavarian Film Center in Munich. The state of Lower Saxony awarded her the film grant. This was followed by the “Talents 2003” scholarship from the Danish screenwriter Mogens Rukov (including Das Fest ). As a participant in the “Berlinale Talent Campus”, she was taught by other international lecturers.

In 1998 Franziska Stünkel founded the company Cita Film and has been working as a film producer since then.

Short films by the director Franziska Stünkel have been shown at numerous international film festivals. As part of “Next Generation 2001”, her short film Wünsch Dir Was was presented during the international film festival in Cannes .

Vineta , the film adaptation of the play Republik Vineta by Moritz Rinke , was the first full-length feature film by Franziska Stünkel (direction, screenplay, co-production). Peter Lohmeyer played the main role. Ulrich Matthes , Justus von Dohnányi , Matthias Brandt and Susanne Wolff can also be seenin other roles. Bela B played for the film together with Wir sind Helden whose song Are you not tired again. Bela B also acts as an actor in the film. The film premiered at the Munich Film Festival in 2006.

In 2012, Stünkel is directing the 18-hour documentary Der Tag der Norddeutschen . The film shows the lives of 121 people in a single day. The film was made from over 700 hours of footage with 400 team members. The shooting took place on May 11, 2012, the TV premiere took place on November 10, 2012. The day of the North Germans is a project of all NDR programs.

In 2019/2020, Franziska Stünkel will be making the feature film Close Shot as director and screenwriter with Lars Eidinger , Luise Heyer and Devid Striesow in the leading roles. Other roles include: a. Moritz Jahn , Peter Benedict , Paula Kalenberg , Christian Redl , Kai Wiesinger , Florian Anderer and Peter Lohmeyer . The film is inspired by the last execution in the GDR. The shooting took place in November and December 2019. The cinema release is planned for 2020.

Franziska Stünkel is also a photo artist. Franziska Stünkel has been working on her ongoing photographic series Coexist for ten years . Franziska Stünkel's photographic works can be seen in museums, art institutions and galleries and are represented in private and public collections. The photographs have so far been taken in Asia, Europe, Africa, the Mediterranean and America.

In 2020, Kehrer Verlag published the photo book Coexist, which shows Franziska Stünkel's photographic series in 110 images. The result is a complex view of the question of coexistence in our present. The photographs are supplemented by text contributions by authors and scientists on the subject of coexistence from various areas, including artificial intelligence, biology, psychology, happiness research, linguistics, culture and fear research. The texts originate from a. by Jannis Androutsopoulos , Borwin Bandelow , Bela B Felsenheimer , Karen Guggenheim, Karin Rehn-Kaufmann, Mark Stephen Meadows, Florian Langenscheidt , Piotr Młodozeniec , Moritz Rinke , Bernhard Schlink .

In 2016 the illustrated book Dialog of Stories was published with photographs by Franziska Stünkel and Kai Wiesinger.

Franziska Stünkel is a member of the Bundesverband Regie and Pro Quote Regie . She lives in Hanover.

Franziska Stünkel involved as an ambassador of the North German bone marrow registry NKR, as an ambassador of the action Taking part of the Lower Saxony State Foundation family in need and as patron of voluntary exchange in Hanover.

She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Hannah Arendt Days, the Board of Trustees of the TUI Foundation, the Art Commission of the Lower Saxony State Representation at the federal government in Berlin and the Advisory Board of the Hannover Art Association.

In 2008, she was the source of ideas for the Spreewald Literature Scholarship, which she then developed as a curator with the Spreewald Cultural Foundation. Since 2008 she has been the chairwoman of the jury. a. Bernhard Schlink , Hanns-Josef Ortheil , Martin Hoffmann and Nina Bohlmann count.

honors and awards

Franziska Stünkel received the Otto Sprenger Prize for the best debut film at the Hamburg Film Festival in 2006. It was for the screenplay of Vineta for German Film 2006 for the Prix Genève Europe - European Screenplay Best nominated. In 2007 Vineta received the Remi Silver Award at the Houston International Film Festival.

In 2009 she received the Audi Art Award for her photographs. The 2015 Berlin Hyp Art Prize followed.

In 2014, Stünkel, as an entrepreneur who campaigns for a quota for women , was awarded the business prize Women Make Location in the Hanover Congress Center .
