The Plauen State Study Academy is one of the locations of the Saxony University of Cooperative Education . Since 1999 it has been included in the Saxon Vocational Academy Act as the seventh study location. 330 students are currently studying at the Staatliche Studienakademie in Plauen.
Special features of the BA course are: compact course in three years, integrative theory-practice combination, industry orientation, adequate first degree at other universities (Bachelor), usually training allowance for studies from the practice partner, students are socially insured, very high integration of Graduates into an employment relationship after completing their studies.

In 1999 a branch of the Staatliche Studienakademie Breitenbrunn was opened in the Seumeschule in the Haselbrunn district and the first 34 students were enrolled. At the beginning there were two courses ( Healthcare Management and Commerce ). In 2001 the technical management course was added. The location was relocated to the city center in 2006. In the same year, the Saxon state government decided to expand the positively evaluated and continued model project Studienakademie Plauen into an independent professional academy. In 2010 the two degree programs Health and Social Management and Trade and International Management were accredited by FIBAA . In the 2011/12 winter semester, the food safety course was introduced in the technology study area .
In October 2015, the new Physician Assistant course started as a model phase. The aim of the new course is academic training at a level between the qualification levels of doctor and nursing staff for use in clinics. In the development of German health care, the daily work of the doctor has experienced a rapid overlap of non-original, highly personal medical activities in the last 20 years. To carry out such activities, knowledge is typically required that has not previously been held by any other professional group than doctors. In May 2018, the Ministry of Science approved the permanent introduction of the course at the Saxony University of Cooperative Education. The model phase is now successfully completed.
In March 2019, the Plauen State Study Academy moved into the new campus on Schloßberg in the city center. Thus the number of students can be increased to 400.
