Monika Eigmüller

Monika Eigmüller (* 1975 ) is a German sociologist with a research focus on European sociology. She was or is a professor at the European University of Flensburg , at the University of Leipzig and at the Free University of Berlin .

Life

Monika Eigmüller did her doctorate in 2006 at the University of Leipzig on the subject of "European Border Security Policy". After several research stays in the USA and her position as a research assistant at the Institute for Sociology at the University of Leipzig, she took over the management of the junior research group "Social Space Europe" in 2008, funded by the Schumpeter Fellowship of the Volkswagen Foundation . In the summer semester of 2012, Monika Eigmüller came to the Free University of Berlin as a visiting professor (on behalf of Jürgen Gerhards ) . Since December 2012 she has been the head of the research network “Socio-histoire der Europeanisierung” at the Hamburg Institute for Social Research (together with Nikola Tietze). Her research focuses on European sociological topics, in particular European social policy, European migration policy, comparative welfare state research, historical-sociological research and border sociology.

On March 1, 2015, Monika Eigmüller accepted the call to the W3 professorship for General Sociology / Focus on European Studies at the European University of Flensburg .

Monika Eigmüller has been a member of the Council for European Studies (Columbia University, USA) / Section "Industrial Relations, Skill Formation and Welfare State Policies" since March 2011. From 2001 to 2002 she was equal opportunities officer in the Faculty of Social Science and Philosophy at the University of Leipzig .
