The national coat of arms of the Dominican Republic dates from 1844 and was last modified in the 1930s .

The current variant of the coat of arms shows the flag of the Dominican Republic in the form of a shield.

In front of the shield is a Bible , behind it is a gold cross and six flags. The Dominican flag is the only one in the world with the Bible on it.

To the right of the sign is a palm branch , to the left a laurel branch . The two branches are tied together below the shield with a red ribbon on which the official name of the state is written.

Above the sign is a blue ribbon with the motto of the state in Spanish:

" Dios, patria, libertad "
( God, fatherland, freedom )
