Greenland coat of arms

Greenland coat of arms

The coat of arms of Greenland shows a polar bear on a blue shield .

It has been the official coat of arms of Greenland since May 1st, 1989, even if it was first used in 1666 under the Danish King Friedrich III. showed up.

In earlier versions of the coat of arms, the polar bear had raised its right paw , as is customary for heraldic animals . However, since the people of Greenland believe that polar bears will attack with their left paw , this has been changed. Since the blazon of the coat of arms never explicitly mentions which paw is raised, this is not a problem.
