Coat of arms at the time of the Duvaliers

The national coat of arms of Haiti was adopted as early as 1807 , but in the form shown here it has only been in use since 1986 .

It shows a flag drapery, in front of which a palm tree and next to which there are cannons on a piece of green lawn with powder horns and ramrods. On it is a hodgepodge of diverse objects, such as a drum , a Clairon , rifles and anchors from sunk ships, as well as broken chains . On top of the palm is the red and blue Jacobin hat as a symbol of freedom.

In front of everything is a banner with the national motto of Haiti: L'Union Fait La Force ( French , "Unity gives strength")

During the reign of the Duvaliers, when the colors of the national flag were changed, the flags depicted on the coat of arms had a different color scheme.
