The center of the coat of arms consists of a triangle in which five volcanoes can be seen protruding from the sea. They symbolize the five member states of the Central American Federation .
Above it is a red Phrygian cap on a stick in front of a golden sun and the date September 15, 1821 , the day of El Salvador's independence.
There is a rainbow above it .
Five flags of El Salvador protrude from behind the coat of arms . Underneath is a banner with the Spanish national motto of El Salvador:
- Dios, Unión, Libertad
- ( God, unity, freedom )
All of this is surrounded by a laurel wreath , which is tied together by the national flag. The wreath is divided into fourteen parts, which symbolize the 14 Departamentos, the Salvadoran sub-national administrative units .
All of this is surrounded by golden letters that form the Spanish words REPÚBLICA DE EL SALVADOR EN LA AMÉRICA CENTRAL (German: Republic of El Salvador in Central America).
