history
Hoenderloo was created around the middle of the 19th century from a small number of scattered cottages . At that time the landscape consisted of heather and sand dunes . The preacher Ottho Heldring discovered the area and built a well in Hoenderloo and a little later a school. A few years later he also financed the construction of a church.
Around 1850, partly with the help of Heldring, a home for difficult-to-educate children and young people was built here, as the first of a series of homes, today's Hoenderloo Groep .
