Werner Draudt

Werner Ludwig Draudt (born February 9, 1921 in Elberfeld ; † October 9, 2016 in Wuppertal ) was a German politician ( FDP ).

Life

Draudt joined the German Conservative Party in 1947 , which in 1950 became the Free Democratic Party . He sat for his party from 1971 to 1994 in the council of the city of Wuppertal with a focus on economic and financial issues. From 1978 to 1989 he served as parliamentary group leader of his party. In the 1970s he headed the Zoo Committee and for nearly twenty years, from 1975 to 1994, the Press and Promotion Committee. From 1989 to 1994 he held the office of mayor . Since 1995 he has been honorary chairman of the FDP district association in Wuppertal. On June 6, 1994, his political work was honored with the award of the ring of honor of the city of Wuppertal, and on June 19, 2006, he was awarded the honorary title of "former mayor" by the city council.

The specialist in the printing industry has received numerous awards and honors for his commitment. In 1980 he received the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon and seven years later the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class . Draudt was involved in animal welfare and was honorary chairman of the Wuppertal Animal Welfare Association . For the Wuppertal Carnival, he founded the so-called Order of Tolerance in the 1954/55 session as then President of the Great Wuppertal Carnival Society.
