With the statutes of March 18, 1996, the city council decided to establish and award the ring of honor of the city of Wuppertal (based on §§ 7 and 41 of the municipal code for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in the version of the announcement of July 14, 1994 (GV NW S 666 / SGV NW 2023)). The statutes came into force the day after their publication. The right to wear the ring of honor is only available to the borrower and expires upon his / her death. The award may not be given away or sold by the recipient or the heir. The ring of honor reverts to the city of Wuppertal after the death of the borrower. It is handed over to the city ​​archive for storage / exhibition. This ring can be withdrawn again in the case of unworthy behavior.
