Eberhard Robke

Eberhard Robke (* 1936 in Wuppertal ) is a German entrepreneur, politician and art sponsor.

life and work

Robke is the managing director of the packaging manufacturer August Pohli GmbH & Co. KG.

The politician Robke joined the local SPD association in Wichlinghausen on June 1, 1957, together with Johannes Rau, and later headed the Wuppertal Young Socialists. From 1969 he was a member of the city council and from 1982 to 1984 chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. From 1975 onwards, under Robke's chairmanship of the school committee and the stage commission , the artistic directors Hanno Lunin , Hellmuth Mathiasek and Jürgen Fabricius were selected. In 1994 he retired from politics.

Robke has been on the board of the Art and Museum Association since 1989 and its chairman since 1990.In December 2005, together with his wife, he founded the Renate and Eberhard Robke Foundation for the acquisition of contemporary art from 1950 , with endowment capital of one million euros. Since the 1980s he has made a name for himself in bringing back, reacting or buying new works of art. For example, in 1986, on his initiative, the picture Marktkirche von Halle was acquired by Lyonel Feininger for the Von der Heydt Museum , and in December 2005 Bernhard Heisig's duty- maker was handed over to the Art and Museum Association . In 2005 Robke donated Friedrich Werthmann's sculpture Entelechie II to the city of Wuppertal . The oil painting Rocky River Landscape by the Frankfurt painter Otto Scholderer from 1863 could also be added to the collection again.

Honors

Eberhard Robke was awarded the Ring of Honor of the City of Wuppertal in November 2006 . He thanked him by announcing that he would be donating 25 chairs at 750 euros each for the new Wuppertal Opera House .
