Kurt Matthes

Kurt Matthes (born August 19, 1914 in Barmen ; † February 28, 2012 in Wuppertal ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending elementary school and advanced school, Matthes passed secondary school in 1931. He then completed a four-year training course as a fabric printer. He did military service from 1935 to 1937, was drafted into the Wehrmacht in 1939 and took part in World War II as a soldier . In 1944 he was taken prisoner, from which he was released in November 1946.

The
Matthes party had already joined the Socialist Workers' Youth (SAJ) in 1928 . Since 1933 he was a member of the SPD. From 1946 to 1965 he was managing director of the party in Wuppertal.

Deputy
Matthes was from 1948 to 1979 council member of the city of Wuppertal. He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1965 to 1972. In parliament he represented the constituency of Wuppertal II .

Honors

In 1969 he was awarded the ring of honor by the city of Wuppertal .
