Kurt Drees
Kurt Drees (* 1925 in Barmen ; † January 18, 1998 in Wuppertal ) was a German local politician and a member of the CDU .
biography
Between 1973 and 1994 he was mayor of Wuppertal. He was a member of the city council between 1961 and 1997 . During this time he was chairman of the Wuppertal CDU and parliamentary group chairman.
In 1981 Kurt Drees was awarded the ring of honor of the city of Wuppertal , and in 1993 the city of Wuppertal granted him honorary citizenship . In 2005, according to plans by the CDU parliamentary group, Spinnstrasse in the Barmen district was renamed Kurt-Drees-Strasse. Previously, the renaming of the old market in Kurt-Drees-Platz had led to massive public protest.
