Werner Stelly

Werner Stelly (born June 25, 1909 in Cadenberge , † August 31, 1997 in Hamburg ) was a German politician. From 1958 until his retirement from politics in 1971 he was senior city director of the city of Wuppertal .

Live and act

Werner Stelly had worked in the public service since 1936 . Since 1946 in the administration of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg , where he became head of the legal department of the Harburg district office in 1950 . In 1954 he was appointed head of the district office for the Harburg district . He stayed there until 1957 as district manager . In 1958 he stood for the election of the city director in Wuppertal and thus challenged his predecessor Dr. Hans Bremme out. After the city council voted on February 18, 1958, the result was clear, he prevailed against Bremme by 27 votes to 13, with four abstentions, and he was sworn in on February 4. During Stelly's service, the opening of the theater and the Kiesberg tunnel fell among other things . On March 15, 1967 he was elected chairman of the finance committee at the German Association of Cities . On June 30, 1967, he was elected deputy member of the board of the German Savings Banks and Giro Association and appointed by the Presidium of the German Association of Cities. On June 30, 1971, he announced his resignation for health reasons. His successor was Rolf Krumsiek . After his time in Wuppertal he moved to Hamburg, where he died on August 31, 1997.

Stelly was also a respected writer who published the short story collection Now and Here in 1948, as well as the radio play Also a small town in 1947 .

Honors

In 1971 Werner Stelly was awarded the ring of honor of the city of Wuppertal .
