Joachim Cornelius

Joachim Cornelius (born September 3, 1934 in Naumburg ; † May 14, 2012 in Wuppertal ) was a German politician. From 1988 to 1996 he was the last city ​​director in Wuppertal.

Cornelius was born as the youngest of four children in Naumburg an der Saale . His father was a lawyer, his mother a housewife. Later he lived in Halle , Magdeburg , Frankfurt , Tuebingen , where he Jura studied in Cologne and until his death in Wuppertal . In 1963 he married Margrit Cornelius, b. Mouth.

In 1968 he was at the University of Cologne Dr. jur. PhD .

On October 27, 1980, he was elected as the successor to Friedrich Platte , who took up the post of senior city director of Wuppertal on August 30, 1980, as the head of social affairs. On November 1, 1988, Cornelius was elected as the successor of Bodo Richter to the senior city director of Wuppertal after the SPD parliamentary group had proposed him for this office on June 28, 1988. Cornelius remained City Director until October 31, 1996. Since the office was then merged with that of the mayor, Cornelius was the last senior city director of Wuppertal.

After a total of 38 years of work in the public service, Cornelius was involved in numerous voluntary functions for his city, for example with the Friends of the City Library and the German Foundation for Monument Protection . He died in May 2012 of a serious illness.
