Erich Bethe (born May 2, 1940 in Vienna ) is a German industrial clerk , entrepreneur and patron . Together with his wife Roswitha Bethe, he founded the Bethe Foundation in 1996 . The Bethe couple have two grown children.

Bethe Foundation

The Bethe Foundation is a non-profit foundation that focuses on promoting children's hospices and institutions in the field of child abuse . In individual cases, other institutions with a special cultural or local background can also be funded. The foundation's assets are currently around 10 million euros. With their foundation, the Bethe couple want to make a contribution so that society may become more humane and tolerant. You manage the business of the foundation yourself. Erich Bethe makes all funding decisions personally. Some of the funding priorities are listed below with examples:

Children's hospices

Many families are overwhelmed with caring for seriously ill children at home. They have to be available at all times, even at night. Often the siblings suffer from the overwhelming demands of their parents and feel marginalized. For seriously ill children, the hospice is a place where they can experience love and security. You will be taken in with your parents and siblings. The Bethe Foundation helps with the costs.

child protection

The Bethe Foundation supports facilities that house children and young people who were exposed to physical violence and / or sexual abuse in their previous environment. The funding projects should also place great value on prevention and education. In contrast to beatings, oppression and withdrawal of love, children especially need attention, understanding and care.

Culture of remembrance

The donors wanted to make a contribution to the preservation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial . They did not want to invest in the structural substance, but in education by some of the costs for a school trip to Auschwitz and other death sites of Nazism took over. Since 2015, the Bethe Foundation has been sponsoring trips for school classes to Polish memorials through the International Association for Education and Meeting in Dortmund.

refugees

Erich Bethe had the Art Fabrik & Hotel in Wuppertal , which he previously owned, converted and has been accommodating around 600 refugees there since November 2015. He donates half of the rental income resulting from this to refugee aid and half to the children's hospice, in particular to the Burgholz children's hospice . In both cases he works closely with the city of Wuppertal.

Doubling of donations

With the help of donations, the Bethe Foundation wants to support the work of children's hospices and institutions in the field of child protection. To this end, she doubles donations from the population in order to draw the public's attention to her work and to ask for support.
