Reinhard Grätz (born February 11, 1940 in Wüstegiersdorf , Waldenburg (Schles) district ) is a German engineer and politician ( SPD ).

Life

After attending school, he completed an apprenticeship as a stove fitter and tiler, graduated in 1957 with the journeyman's examination and worked as a journeyman until 1959. He then passed the secondary school leaving certificate in 1959, attended the State Engineering School for Ceramics from 1959 to 1962 and graduated as a graduate engineer. From 1962 to 1964 he worked as a production engineer in Ennepetal and Berlin and from 1964 to 1980 as a test engineer at the Institute for Brick Research in Essen.

Grätz joined the SPD in 1957, acted as sub-district chairman of the Young Socialists in Wuppertal from 1968 to 1973 and was a member of the sub-district executive committee of the SPD Wuppertal from 1972 to 1994. From 1974 to 1988 he was a member of the SPD district executive in Lower Rhine and from 1975 to 1994 a member of the SPD state executive in North Rhine-Westphalia, where he acted as spokesman for education and media policy. In addition, he was a member of the political education commission of the SPD federal executive committee from 1976 to 1984 and of the media policy commission of the SPD party executive committee from 1984 to 1988.

From 1968 to 1970 he was a district representative, from 1969 to 1970 a city councilor and 1970 to 1975 a competent citizen in the Wuppertal City Council. He was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia from July 26, 1970 to June 1, 2000. There he became a member of the cultural committee of the state parliament in 1970, was chairman of the committee for schools and culture from 1975 to 1985, from 1985 to 1990 parliamentary manager of the SPD parliamentary group and from 1990 to 1995 chairman of the main committee of the state parliament.

In 1958 he became a member of the chemistry, paper and ceramics union . From 1979 to 1980 he was a member of the WDR Broadcasting Council and from 1981 to 1985 a member of the WDR Board of Directors. From 1985 to 2009 he was chairman of the WDR Broadcasting Council.

Honors

Reinhard Grätz was awarded the ring of honor of the city of Wuppertal in 2000 . He has also been an honorary citizen of the Bergische Universität Wuppertal since 1995 . In 2010 Reinhard Grätz was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.
