Meghri ( Armenian Մեղրի , scientific transliteration Mełri , [mɛʀ'ɹi] ) is a city in southern Armenia .
geography
It is located in the province of Sjunik not far from the border with Iran . The climate is warm and dry ( semi-humid climate ).
In the 2001 census, the population was determined to be 4005. In January 2009 there were 4780 inhabitants in Meghri.
Economy and Infrastructure
The city is important in trade between Iran and Armenia. The Iran-Armenia natural gas pipeline , which opened in March 2007, also runs through the city .

The distance on the M2 trunk road to Kajaran is 45 kilometers, to Kapan 71 kilometers and to Yerevan 361 kilometers.
The city had had a train station since 1941 on the Ələt – Culfa railway line that was opened at the time . Due to the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh that broke out when the Soviet Union was dissolved , traffic was interrupted several times from 1989, resumed depending on the military situation, but finally stopped in 1995.
