Lugny is a French municipality with 875 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Arrondissement Mâcon in the department of Saone-et-Loire in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It is the center of the Haut-Mâconnais landscape and belongs to the canton of Hurigny . It was first mentioned in a document in 894. The Bourbonne flows through the Lugny area and later flows into the Saône . The village's church dates from the 19th century.
Viticulture dominates economically in Lugny : around a quarter of the area consists of vineyards. Lugny is part of the Burgundy wine region and forms a stage on the Mâconnais-Beaujolais wine route.
On July 27, 1991, Lugny was the starting point of a time trial of the 78th Tour de France .
The community has been in partnership with Meckenheim in Rhineland-Palatinate since 1980 .

Viticulture
The wines produced in the village (mainly white wines ) can be marketed under the designation of origin ( Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée ) Mâcon AOC . In addition, the regionally widespread Burgundy wines Aligoté , Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire , Crémant de Bourgogne and Passetoutgrain can be grown in Lugny .
