Joncy is a French municipality with 530 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Saône-et-Loire in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the arrondissement of Mâcon and the canton of Blanzy .
geography
Joncy is located in the south of Burgundy on the edge of the area of the former County of Charolais , north of the Maçonnais, 97 kilometers north of Lyon , 16 kilometers southeast of Montceau-les-Mines and about 12 kilometers northeast of the canton capital La Guiche , between the neighboring communities of Saint-Clément -sur-Guye in the east, Burzy in the southeast and Collonge-en-Charollais in the northwest. The Guye , a tributary of the Grosne, runs east of the town center. The hamlet of Rains belongs to the municipality.
history
Rains was formerly the seat of a seigneurie and Joncy the seat of a barony .
Attractions
Joncy Castle dates back to the 16th century.
In Rains there is a sheepfold made of natural stones that was built without mortar. In French these buildings are called Cabane en pierre sèche . They were built in rural areas from the 17th to the 19th centuries to temporarily accommodate agricultural implements, farm animals, or workers. The Cabane von Rains faces a Murgers . Murger are wide walls or ramparts that are used in viticulture to separate plots from each other.
economy
In the Rains limestone quarry , yellow and gray limestone from the Bajocian was mined. The Joncynois' major occupations today are viticulture, agriculture and the breeding of domestic cattle and domestic pigs .
