Royer is located about 31 kilometers north of Mâcon and about 26 kilometers south of Chalon-sur-Saône in the Bourgogne wine-growing region . Royer is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Mancey in the north and northeast, Ozenay in the south and east, Martailly-lès-Brancion in the south and southwest and La Chapelle-sous-Brancion in the west.
