Soprillo

Soprillo

The soprillo (also sopranissimo saxophone ) is the smallest regular size of the saxophone .

The soprillo is tuned in Bb and is an octave above the soprano saxophone . The pitch range is sounding as 1 –des 4 (i.e. notated b 0 –es 3 ). Since the instrument is only 30 cm long, the opening of the octave key was placed in the mouthpiece. It is played with a shortened E flat clarinet reed. It's very difficult to play. The highest notes in particular can only be achieved after months of practice.

The Soprillo is made exclusively by Benedikt Eppelsheim .
