Style of play

Like most solitaire games, the Thirteen is a single card game. The playing cards, a simple rummy sheet of 52 cards, are shuffled and placed face down as a stack ( talon ) in front of the player. The card values correspond to the number of pips in the number playing cards, the ace counts as one, the jack counts eleven, the queen twelve and the king thirteen. The top ten cards are picked up and placed face up in a row:

  • Example: In the following display, the single king and the pairs 8 + 5, 10 + 3 and jack (11) +2 can be removed.

Regardless of the color of the card, pairs of 13 points each are taken from the display and set aside. In addition, individual kings that alone have the value 13 can also be discarded. Any gaps that have arisen are filled with new cards from the talon.

The game ends when the talon is completely used up. If all cards have been discarded, the solitaire has risen; if this is not the case, the player has lost the solitaire.

The game is similar to Solitaire Eight Cards , but eight cards are laid out and pairs and single cards with 11 points are removed.
