The N521 was a French national road from 1933 to 1973 that ran between the N504 west of Ruffieux and Les Échelles. Their length was 56 kilometers. In 1998 the route of the N52 between Crusnes and Havange was relocated to a new expressway, part of which went into operation as the A30, thereby numbering the old route as the N521. In 2001 the graduation took place. In the same year, another N521 was built as a connection between the N152 and junction 20 of the A10 northeast of Tours. This has been part of the D801 since 2006.
