The N566 was a French national road from 1933 to 1973, which ran between L'Escarène and Menton over the Col de Turini . Their length was 73 kilometers. On her way she crosses the N204 in Sospel, from which she branched off in L'Escarène. From 1980 to 2000, the number was used to connect the A43 with the Italian border in the Tunnel du Fréjus. In 2000 one part was renumbered to A43 and the other to N543.
