The N518 was a French national road from 1933 to 1973 that ran between Lyon and Die. Their length was 163 kilometers. In 1973 it was downgraded to a short section in Lyon. This followed in 1984. Between Échevis and Les Barraques-en-Vercors, a tunnel was opened in 2008 that bypasses the old road through the gorge. The old street is now closed and inaccessible through gates.
