The Route nationale 204 , or N 204 or RN 204 for short , was a French national road .

The road was laid down in 1860 when the county of Nice became part of France. It ran between Nice and the Italian border at Tende , where it turned into the road to Moncalieri . This has been the Italian State Road 20 since 1928 . After the Second World War , the border shifted in 1947, so that State Road 20 has since started after the Tunnel de Tende. The N 204 was 91.5 kilometers long. In 1973 it was downgraded between Breil-sur-Roya and Nice to department road  2204 and from 1978 onwards it was reorganized:

  • N 204 Italian border (SS 20) - Breil-sur-Roya
  • N 204 B Breil-sur-Roya - Italian border (SS 20)

In 2006 it was downgraded to the D 6204. The D 2204 became the route métropolitaine between Nice and La Trinité in 2012 and will be given a new number there in the future.
