The N170 was a French national road established between Quimper and Brignogan-Plage in 1824. It goes back to route 190 impériale. Their length was 98.5 kilometers. In 1973, the section between Daoulas and Brignogan-Plage was graduated and Département roads 33 and 233 were upgraded to the N170, so that the N170 ran from there to Brest. In 1978 the N170 was taken over into the N165. The route is now fully developed as an expressway and is to become part of the A82 in the future. The section between Le Relecq-Kerkuon and Brest, which comes from the D233, is now graduated to the D165. In the same year, the number N170 was used for a side branch of the new N70, which ran from this to Montceau-les-Mines. After a few years this was downgraded to a municipal road. In 1999 the N170 was used again for a newly built expressway between Argenteuil and Soisy-sur-Montmorency. This has been the D170 since 2006.
