The Route nationale 212 , or N 212 or RN 212 for short , was a French national road .

The road was laid out in three sections in 1912. With already existing national road sections, it formed the first version of the "Route des Alpes", which led from Évian-les-Bains on Lake Geneva to Nice on the Mediterranean . The total length of the sections was 154 kilometers.

In 1920 a second variant of the "Route des Alpes" was established, in connection with which the N 212 was completely taken over from the national road 202 . In 1931 the "Route des Alpes" was relocated to a route east of Albertville (not fully completed to this day), so that the number N 212 was used for the section of the N 202 that was thus free. This section between Sallanches and Albertville was 45 kilometers long and was graduated in 2006.
