fortress
The fortress and at the same time the village of Mont-Dauphin were built in 1693 by the French fortress builder Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban . It served to defend the French southeastern border by sealing off the Durance and Guil valleys . The name comes from Louis de Bourbon, dauphin de Viennois , the son of King Louis XIV. The complex was built on a rocky plateau that is only easily accessible from one side. The unfinished church, which was further dismantled in the 19th century, is remarkable, but the rest of the complex is in good condition.
