The Col du Lautaret is a mountain pass in the French Alps . It connects the Oisans and Briançonnais valleys .

Routing

The Col du Lautaret can be reached from three sides. The south-east ramp begins in Briançon and leads up to the 2057 m high pass. The west ramp comes from Le Clapier near Le Bourg-d'Oisans . This is the longer and more difficult side of the Lautaret. The Lac du Chambon reservoir and the winter sports resort of La Grave are located on it .

The Col du Lautaret from Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne can be reached from the north via the upstream Col du Télégraphe (1566 m), the ski resort of Valloire and the Col du Galibier (2645 m).

Tour de France

These pass roads to the Col du Lautaret are crossed almost every year by the Tour de France because they are important links between the valleys of the Romanche , Isère and Maurienne . It is a second category pass. If the Col du Galibier is crossed in the same stage, there is no mountain classification on Lautaret. The mountain rating on Lautaret depends on the side of the journey and varies from year to year between the 1st and 3rd category.

For hobby drivers, the Col du Lautaret offers the opportunity to reach other passes: the Col du Galibier, the Col de la Madeleine (1993 m), Col du Glandon (1924 m), Col de la Croix de Fer (2067 m) and the Col d'Izoard (2360 m). The Lautaret belongs to the Hautes-Alpes and forms the connection to the Isère and Savoy regions .

Alpine garden

To the northwest above the summit of the Lautaret is the 1899 built Alpine Garden Station Alpine Joseph Fourier, of the University of Grenoble Alpes and the French national research organization Center national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) is operated.
