The Col Agnel ( French Col Agnel , Italian Colle dell'Agnello ) is a 2744 m high border mountain pass between Italy and France in the Cottian Alps .
description
The Col Agnel / Colle dell'Agnello ( SG 2-3 ) is the highest border pass in the Alps and, after the Col de l'Iseran and the Stilfser Joch, the third highest paved alpine pass.
It connects the French Queyras ( Hautes-Alpes department ) with the Italian Varaita valley ( Cuneo province , Piedmont region ). From the southern, Italian side, the road SP 251 from Pontechianale leads to the pass, from the northern, French side, the road D 205. The last village on the French side is Fontgillarde .
The Col Agnel / Colle dell'Agnello in cycling races
In 2008 the Tour de France route crossed the pass on the way to Prato Nevoso . In 2011, the Col Agnel was climbed from the south on the 18th stage . The Col Agnel was classified in the highest category ( HC ).
At the Giro d'Italia 2016 , the mountain classification was awarded at the highest point of the route, the Cima Coppi , on the Colle dell'Agnello.
