The cibiana pass ( 1530 m slm , even Forcella Cibiana ) is a little-known mountain pass in the southern Dolomites ( Italy ), located in the province of Belluno the Region Veneto . The narrow road, which is also open in winter, connects the Valle del Boite ( Ampezzaner Alps ) of Venas di Cadore in the east with the Val di Zoldo in the west over a distance of approx. 20 km and with a maximum gradient of 15% . The Rifugio Remauro guest house, which is open all year round, is located at the top of the pass .
In the north of the pass are the Monte Pelmo ( 3168 m slm ) and the Monte Rite ( 2183 m slm ). The Monte Rite can be reached from the top of the pass on an old war road and offers an excellent panoramic view of the surrounding peaks. Only bicycles and jeep taxis are allowed on the street today. The summit was of great strategic importance during the First World War ( Dolomite War 1915-1918 ), so that the Monte Rite fortress was built on it.
In 2002, the South Tyrolean extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner opened a Mountain Museum Dolomites here .
South of the pass is the largely unknown and comparatively undeveloped Bosconero group with its rugged rocky peaks ( Sassolungo di Cibiana , 2413 m slm ; Sasso di Toanella, 2430 m slm ; Rocchetta Alta di Bosconero , 2412 m slm ; Sfornioi, 2425) , which is largely unknown in German-speaking countries m slm ). The Passo Cibiana is crossed as part of the Dolomites High Trail 3 , which, coming from the north, leads through the Bosconero group to Longarone in the Val Piave .
